The E1 Treaty Trader Visa allows nationals of certain countries to enter the United States to carry out substantial trade between their home country and the U.S. Not every country qualifies, and eligibility depends on whether a treaty of commerce and navigation exists between the United States and the applicant’s home country.

*Please note: The E1 treaty applies to the United Kingdom itself, not the wider Commonwealth. If you are a national of a Commonwealth country, eligibility depends on whether your country has its own treaty of commerce and navigation with the United States, a qualifying international agreement with the U.S., or has been designated a qualifying country by legislation.

What this means for applicants

If your country appears on this list, you may be eligible to apply for an E1 treaty trader visa. However, if your country doesn’t appear, you may need to look at alternative visa routes that allow for investment, trade, or employment within the U.S.
