Current COVID-19 Vaccination requirements for Immigrant Visas processed through the US Consulate in Bern, Switzerland

By George Lake

Immigrant Visa applicants in Switzerland, including those applying for Family Based and Employment Based Green Cards need to undergo a medical examination at one of the panel physicians in Bern, Geneva or Zurich before having their Immigrant Visa interview in the U.S Consulate in Bern. This will include an assessment of vaccinations.

In order to be considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for the purposes of this
medical examination, all applicants for an Immigrant Visa must have received a
COVID-19 booster in the past 12 months. Current Swiss Government guidelines recommend that from autumn 2024 onwards, COVID-19 vaccination is recommended in autumn/winter for persons at an increased risk of developing a severe case of the illness (including pregnant persons). COVID-19 vaccination is not recommended for any other persons.

It’s possible to find specific information regarding the local availability of COVID-19
vaccines on the relevant website of each province or territory. Broadly speaking,
COVID-19 vaccines are available from pharmacies, public health clinics and the
offices of healthcare providers.

Those who have not had a COVID-19 booster in the past 12 months are directed by the
panel physician to receive one via the above mentioned channels.
