The Violence Against Women Act (Also referred to as VAWA) allows for victims of domestic violence, abuse, or extreme cruelty to apply for immigration independently of their abuser.
This legislation applies to spouses, children and parents of abusive US citizens or permanent residents, ensuring they can seek immigration assistance and safety without fear of deportation.
Who qualifies for VAWA?
You May qualify for a VAWA self-petition visa if:
- You are married to or were married to an abusive US citizen or lawful permanent resident.
- You are the child of an abusive US citizen or lawful permanent resident.
