Success Story: Approval of x2 First Time U.S. Passport Application for Adult Dutch Nationals

Our clients, two adult children of U.S. citizens living in the Netherlands, asked our firm to help them secure their U.S. citizenship. Similar to children, when adults apply for their first U.S. passport, there needs to be proof that they are eligible for the passport. Our firm was able to argue and prove our client’s eligibility by their U.S. father’s physical presence inside the U.S. before our client’s birth.

For adults applying for their first U.S. passport, the process is more demanding because they must provide extensive documentation proving their own identity, citizenship, and legal name history over a lifetime. This includes prior name changes, previous documents, and a longer paper trail, whereas a child’s history is much shorter and simpler to document. Additionally, adults who have never held a passport may face extra scrutiny if their birth certificate or early citizenship records are outdated, damaged, inconsistent, or from jurisdictions with less reliable record-keeping, complications that are far less common with recently born children whose records are fresher and more standardized.

The entire process took about 8 weeks from the date of filing the application to obtaining the two U.S. passports. Blue Lake Law would like to extend a congratulations to our clients who are now officially recognized as U.S. citizens and are now able to make a life in the U.S..
